Spark Cycle requested that a solution be provided to improve the audio quality within one of their spin studio locations. The spin studio room contained many exposed reflective surfaces, such as mirrors and metal construction, causing excess reverberation. A secondary issue investigated was poor sound quality with respect to instructor audio.

The excess reverberation was mitigated by taking RT60 measurements at the location, and calculating the amount and type of acoustic panels needed to reduce reverberation to acceptable levels.

The instructor audio issue was determined to be caused by improper mixing. The instructor audio was being mixed on the same channel as the music, which caused excess bass and other unwanted effects for vocal intelligibility. The instructor audio was improved by upgrading the sound system to allow for individual channels for music and instructor audio.
