Problem

Renovations were performed on a unit with another unit located directly below. The HOA requires that upstairs flooring assemblies meet an impact insulation class (IIC) rating of 55. The client requested that the assembly be tested to ensure that it meets the requirements of the HOA.

Solution

An IIC test was performed at the location to determine the rating of the existing floor assembly. The test was performed according to ASTM E1007, using a calibrated tapping machine and microphone. The results were prepared for the client with recommendations on improving the floor assembly, if necessary.
